We currently have an opportunity for the right individuals to join our dynamic and talented team of employees as an Automation Supervisor. This is a full-time position.

The Automation (control and instrumentation) Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and managing the day-to-day operations of the control and instrumentation maintenance department and for designing, developing, installing, managing and maintaining equipment used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery and processes. This position is expected to provide continuous plant operation with optimal up time. The Automation Supervisor is also responsible for the growth and development of team subordinates and promoting a healthy and safe work environment through team building, facilitating problem-solving, and making recommendations for continuous process improvement (CPI).


  • Design, program and install instrumentation and control systems including process controls, DCS, data systems and PLCs using Allen Bradley or like software
  • Develop new programs and logic when necessary to optimize existing processes targeting higher yields and minimizing downtime
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems with instrumentation and control systems, PLC and HMI
  • Coordinate with the electrical and process engineers to review existing programming routines and modify or improve for optimization of yield and cycle time or reduce nuisance interruptions and program stalling
  • Design, program and update Wonder Ware HMI’s for operator use and functionality requirements
  • Use Auto Cad to update, modify and create electrical schematics as well as line upgrades
  • Lead CAPEX projects related to controls and instrumentation, and/or provide support to other
  • Direct and coordinates the controls and instrumentation team in areas including safety, quality, cost, efficiency, environmental, training and continuous process improvement.
  • Coordinate controls and instrumentation maintenance department resources to maximize up-time through preventative and predictive maintenance and ensure prompt and efficient response to any process or facility requirement. This could include obtaining and interfacing with contracted services as required.
  • Covers and provides back-up to the Electrical Supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or controls engineering
  • Ability to coach and lead a diverse workforce

Preferred Qualifications

  • PEng registered in the Province of Ontario would be considered
  • 8-10 years of industrial experience in a manufacturing environment with broad-based experience interacting with production, engineering and maintenance
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience
  • Proven experience leading the design, programming, start-up, troubleshooting and validating of process control systems and instruments including PLC, DCS and HMI systems (Wonder Ware HMI and Historian)
  • Hands on experience for configuring I/O’s in the control panel and on DCS, working knowledge of laying control wires from the device to the cabinet
  • Strong computer experience using Auto Cad, Excel, Word
  • Knowledge of PLCs (i.e. Allen Bradley software, RSLogix 5000 and 5500)
  • Familiarity with IT/Networking, database applications and computer management is an asset
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams
