JOB TITLE: CANTEEN OPERATOR
DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND RECREATION
Directly Responsible to: Parks and Recreation Facilities Supervisor
Indirectly Responsible to: Manager of Parks and Recreation
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Operate food services from the Civic Centre, Hall and Kinhut and operate the
mini putt / batting cages, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate the Civic Centre and Kinhut canteens.
 ensure customers are served promptly and politely.
 responsible for the cleanliness of the canteen/Kinhut and its equipment as
well as the tables in the eating area.
 responsible for operating all equipment and preparing food.
 must perform daily inventory and balance to sales.
 restock inventory at end of shift.
 responsible for doing daily deposit and turning over to Park and Facility
Operator on duty (both must sign cash slip)
Operates the Civic Centre mini putt (May to September).
 ensure customers are served promptly and politely.
 responsible for providing customers with putters, balls, score cards and
pencils.
 responsible for handing out free passes for customers who win a free game
at hole 19.
 ensure safety of course – facility inspection prior to shift starting and visual
check periodically during shift.
 ensure customers are not vandalizing equipment or course.
 ensure washrooms are stocked with toilet paper and soap.
 deposit proceeds at end of shift.
 record any required maintenance on the daily log (e.g. loose bricks, #19 not
working, #18 blocked, need balls, etc.).
HUMAN RESOURCES
 hired by Parks and Recreation Facilities Supervisor.
 trained by Parks and Recreation Facilities Supervisor and senior canteen
staff.
 reports to Parks and Recreation Facilities Operator on shift during evening
and weekend shifts.
 works in conjunction with all Parks and Recreation Department staff
FINANCIAL RESOURCES
 not responsible for preparation of budgets.
 accepts payment, prepares daily financial reports and completes canteen
inventory.
MATERIAL RESOURCES
 carries out duties using cash register and a variety food preparation and
cleaning equipment.
SKILL AND EFFORT
 ability to work well with the public.
 knowledge of hot food preparation.
 be neat in appearance.
 be trustworthy and work within a team atmosphere.
 be able physically to carry stock such as a case of pop.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment
 exposure to cold in arena and heat during summer operations.
Control over Work Schedule
 shift work as per schedule established by Facility Manager – nights and
weekends.
 Strict adherence to Ministry of Health food service guidelines.
 flexible hours based on the program and event schedule.
