Carefor Health & Community Services offers home care services, community support and operates the Pembroke Civic Complex retirement residence. Carefor provides frozen meals, transportation and visiting programs as well as personal and home support, foot care programs, companion sitters and a going home program which allows for transition from a medical stay back to the home. We operate throughout Renfrew County and are one of the region’s most recognized healthcare providers.

We are currently recruiting for a Cook/Dietary Aide. This is a casual position.

The Cook/Dietary Aide is responsible for the preparation and service of well-balanced meals to residents, following established menus while considering therapeutic diets and resident’s preference in consultation with the supervisor, and clean-up following meal service. Responsibilities will be performed in accordance with food handling and safety standards, Canada’s Food Guide, and within the framework of Carefor Health and Community Services policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Cook certification from approved college, or an acceptable combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • Food Handling and Safety certificate
  • WHMIS certification
  • Experience with food prep, serving food, using kitchen equipment, customer service, working with the elderly, working in a similar setting.
  • Ability to understand oral and written directions
  • Ability to calculate recipe quantities
  • Ability and available to fulfill the shift rotation designed for position (early morning,  late evening, and weekends)
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to handle the temperatures of working in a kitchen environment
  • Interested in supporting the elderly and disabled adults
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to bend, sit, stand, kneel for short periods of time
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety as relates to job
