Functionally reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Category Lead is accountable for managing a group or category of product or services over its entire lifecycle including; analyzing data or insights from internal consumer demand or external markets to determine trends; developing medium to long range strategies to procure appropriate capabilities for CNL, and effectively manage the category to realize the intended benefits and capture lessons learned while meeting regulatory and/or or other Contractual obligations under CNL’s Agreements with AECL.
Collaborates with internal customers, other Category Leads and management to devises long-term development strategies for assigned product / service categories.
Manages the procurement lifecycle including requirement definition planning, solicitation development, evaluation design, proposal evaluation, negotiation and award, and post contract activities including appropriate administration, assurance, and review.
Develops and implements category strategies that apply lessons learned while supporting a commercial rational that outlines benefits to be realized over the course of the agreement(s).
Coordinates and leads internal discovery activities to identify opportunities to expand category platforms in a manner that contributes to the reduction of discrete solicitations for repetitive service and / or material requirements for all CNL sites where feasible and appropriate.
The Category Lead provides support and guidance in planning, scheduling, processes, monitoring projects, allocation of resources and supervising activities to ensure that all requirements are met, from both process and internal customer perspectives.
The Category Lead has direct supervisory responsibility for Staff and day-to-day activities within the assigned Categories. Administrative responsibilities include:
Through targeted training and mentoring, develop both pre- and post-contract competence of the category team to drive a greater commercial thinking.
Prepares and submits category activity reports as requested / required. Develops and maintains Category reporting structure and other supporting documentation.
Post-secondary education in Business or Technical discipline, plus 10+ yrs. of progressive contracting experience, preferably within a Category Management framework structure, subject to complex technical, engineering and/or regulatory environments.
Functional knowledge of Canadian Contract Law commensurate with the position accountabilities.
Sound knowledge and appreciation of ethical contracting and business conduct and practice.
Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written documentation.
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, motivate and align staff, internal customers and suppliers.
Demonstrated proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning tools such as Oracle Purchasing and IProcurement modules considered an asset.
The Category Lead establishes expectations regarding professionalism, structure and tone of both written and verbal communications. Demonstrates an ability to interpret, process and interact with all levels of the organization, as required.

This position requires the ability to function at a senior level in a team environment, and the flexibility to devote additional/extended hours and to work under pressure.
The Category Lead is a specialist in the Procurement arena, and is accustomed to dealing with unique, complex and/or service- related procurement challenges and opportunities. Must be able to manage assigned categories, associated processes, staff and customer base alike.
