St. Timothy’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pembroke, is currently recruiting for a part-time Custodian(s).

The Custodian(s) performs a variety of custodial duties such as routine cleaning, routine building and equipment maintenance, opening and closing the building, checking building systems, responding to emergency calls, performing yard garbage pickup, snow shoveling (entrance areas, sidewalks and emergency exists), and other duties as assigned at the Church.

  • High school diploma or equivalent of Grade 12
  • Custodial or related experience an asset
  • Proven to be dependable with a willingness to take on responsibility

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to clean rooms, washrooms and fixtures; mop, wash, scrub and finish floors; pick up and dispose of garbage and recycling; vacuum and/or shampoo carpets; wipe and wash windows, whiteboards, ledges, railings and furniture.
  • Able to do a thorough cleaning such as stripping, resealing and refinishing floors.
  • Capable of operating custodial cleaning equipment and identifying simple problems with this equipment.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position; duties involve a mixture of lifting up to 23 kg (tables, chairs, boxes, etc.), bending, twisting, knee bending, climbing ladders, etc.;
  • Able to perform routine maintenance activities including repairing small equipment; replacing fuses and light bulbs, resetting circuit breakers and unclogging drains.
  • Capable of using manual or mechanized equipment (e.g., industrial vacuum, floor polishing equipment, snow shovel).
  • Able to perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all Church policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety to protect all occupants of the building.
  • Able to complete tasks within deadlines and adjust priorities as needed. Able to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Able to establish and maintain excellent working relations with supervisory staff, fellow workers, Church members, contractors and Church user groups.
  • Able to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions in the conduct of the job.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
  • Able to show initiative (self starter) and apply mature judgment.
  • Able to keep records up to date.
  • Working knowledge of email would be an asset.
Additional Information
Hours of Work: 405 to 810 hours per year.
