The Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre (OVWRC) is a municipal partnership between six municipalities. We  opened in 2002 and we provide waste processing services for the partner municipalities as well as other communities throughout Renfrew County. Having recently celebrated our 15th anniversary, OVWRC has become a leader in waste recovery and management in Ontario.

We are currently recruiting for a Diversion Equipment Operator. This is a contract position from May 1, 2018 to September 29, 2018. This position is up to 40 hours per week, Monday to Saturday.

The primary duties of a Diversion Equipment Operator is to operate loaders, forklifts, baling and other processing equipment used in the receiving, processing and shipping of diversion materials.


  • Performs all the duties of a Diversion Equipment Operator.
  • Generally works on own with some contact with co-workers and customers delivering materials.
  • Assists in the processing of recyclables and organics including loading conveyor belts, monitoring quality, pre-sorting materials and the processing of organic material (i.e. windrow management including turning and watering).
  • Ensures appropriate records related to daily equipment checks and servicing, and incident and hazard reports are completed.
  • Equivalent to high school education with some degree of specialization in equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Minimum 6 months experience with various kinds of equipment and rolling stock.
  • Must have a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Must have a valid DZ license and experience with roll-off trucks or tandem axle dump trucks.
  • Must have a general knowledge of recyclable, organic and waste materials for proper sorting and waste classification.
  • A working knowledge of composting operations would be considered an asset.
