We are currently recruiting for a Library Assistant. This position is 35 hours per week, 10 months of the year. This position is located at Mackenzie Community School in Deep River. This position is effective January 4, 2021.

Under the direction of the school administration, the Library Assistant will assist in organizing and maintaining a collection of library materials by using specialized knowledge of library systems and methods. The Library Assistant will also work with and maintain manual and/or automated systems, resources and equipment required to ensure an effective library operation for the use of students and staff. The Library Assistant will provide training on library systems as needed and provide supervision of students as required.

Under the supervision of the principal or designate, duties will include:

• Assist students and staff with using library resources and specialized equipment and ready reference questions
• Assist students and staff in the use of ON-LINE and CD-ROM programs
• Provide supervision of students as required
• Update and maintain electronic catalog (verifying cataloging information, transferring of records, and editing records to reflect local holdings)
• Maintain circulation desk according to procedure guidelines
• Order and maintain all library supplies

• Library and Information Technician diploma or equivalent
• Proficiency in computer skills
• Successful experience in a school library setting and knowledge of secondary curriculum would be assets
• Must work well in a team environment with adolescents and teaching staff
• Strong organizational, judgment and interpersonal skills are also required
