Pembroke MDF Inc. is a privately owned company, located just outside Pembroke, Ontario.  Our facility utilizes high quality wood fiber supplied by local sawmills to manufacture high quality fibreboard and painted base board mouldings.  Unlike other types of wood panels, the homogenous and uniform structure of fibreboard results in a product that is easily routed, milled and finished.

We currently have an opportunity for the right individual to join our dynamic and talented team of employees as an Operating Technician (Press Support).

This position is responsible for performing day to day activities related to production of boards. This includes monitoring the production process and operating equipment, producing orders according to plan, understanding all stations of the press area, tracking semi-finished and finished materials from the beginning of the process through the end by way of computer, visual inspection, monitoring materials for quality and ensuring proper function, cleaning and minor maintenance of equipment and areas of the plant as required. Must maintain high level of accuracy, safety and quality as well as meet production goals of their team and the company.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Train with the objective of becoming a competent Press Operator
  • Set up, operate, troubleshoot and adjust equipment throughout the press line and outfeed
  • Visually and manually inspect and test boards and materials to meet quality expectations
  • Train with vendors and QPL on equipment operation
  • Assist with training of new employees
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems during production
  • Identify root cause of issues during production and document issue on action logs
  • Follow up on issues assigned to this position through the action log
  • Work closely with quality department to resolve quality issues with semi-finished and finished product
  • Remove excess material from the line
  • Communicate with co-workers at all levels regarding daily production, quality and safety issues
  • Understand computer programs to monitor, research, and track orders according to requirements of the customer
  • Work with press support in crossover areas of production.
  • Understand process flow of material for press department
  • Help maintain all equipment and systems of the production line
  • Observe safety regulations and wears appropriate PPE at all times
  • Cross-train on the press and lab support and to serve as a back-up at those stations when needed
  • Operate fork-truck and other equipment required to produce MDF
  • Maintain clean work area
  • Safely operate a chainsaw for cutting reject board
  • Participate in maintenance and cleaning duties during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance times
  • Maintains respectful communication with co-workers and supervisory staff
  • Familiar with the Company’s policies/processes and understands the impact of this position on the competitiveness and performance of the company
  • Complies with and follows health and safety policies and programs
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate
  • Mechanical education/certification an asset
  • Fork-truck certification is an asset


  • Actual work experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Experience with metric and standard measurements


  • Mechanical and troubleshooting aptitude
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed.  Energetic, forward-thinking and creative with high ethical standards
