JOB TITLE: PARKS & RECREATION CLEANER – CASUAL PART TIME
DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND RECREATION
Directly Responsible to: Parks and Recreation Facilities Supervisor
Indirectly Responsible to: Manager of Parks and Recreation
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To provide a variety of cleaning functions to the Parks and Recreation buildings,
maintaining a clean and safe facility to host programs and special events within
the Parks and Recreation Department buildings.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
PROGRAM/SERVICE
 ensure public safety and program readiness of hall and other facility
areas of responsibility.
 responsible for the cleanliness, readiness and safety of front entrance,
stairwells, elevator, main hall, kitchen, washrooms, bars, lounge, all
storage rooms, coat room, offices and class rooms.
 responsible for cleaning all related equipment and ensuring it is in
working order (cleaning machinery, hot water tank, furnace, sinks,
toilets).
 responsible to report to the Parks and Recreation Facilities Supervisor,
verbally or by listing on daily log, any damage, repairs required, future
replacement of equipment or cleaning supplies required and attach
incident reports
 responsible to notify Parks and Recreation Facilities Supervisor if extra
help required for spring / fall maintenance, ice build up, leaves, stripping
floor etc.
 keep exits clear at all times to ensure safety, etc.
 work with chemicals – requires strong emphasis on WHMIS.
 place a strong emphasis on customer service and team work to establish
good public relations.
 discuss plans, priorities and work schedules with Parks and Recreation
Facilities Supervisor and rental groups.

HUMAN RESOURCES
 not responsible for supervising the work of others.
FINANCIAL RESOURCES
 not responsible for the preparation of budgets or acquisition of funds.
MATERIAL RESOURCES
 carries out work assignments using cleaning equipment and supplies.
 responsible for the safe and effective use of all equipment.
SKILLS AND EFFORT
KNOWLEDGE
 aware of proper cleaning procedures and how to properly use supplies and
equipment.
 must be aware of WHMIS fact sheets on all cleaning supplies.
PHYSICAL SKILL AND EFFORT
 physically capable of set up and tear down of hall and of operating
scrubbers, buffers, vacuum and mops.
Decision Making and Judgment
 work is performed under the general supervision of the Facility Manager
 judgment is exercised in:
 informing Parks and Recreation Facility Manager and/or ordering
budgeted cleaning supplies when required,
 informing Parks and Recreation Facility Manager when help or repairs
are needed in hall.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/CONTACTS
 deals with the lessee and the public at large
Internal
 reports directly to the Parks and Recreation Facilities Supervisor and works
with other operational staff.
External
 has some contact with user groups and the public.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment
 normally works inside the assigned facility with occasional heavy physical
effort.
Work Schedule
 as specified by the municipal policy governing the department.
