SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION

Renfrew County District School Board is in the Eastern region of Ontario. The district is bound by the Ottawa River on the east, Algonquin Park on the west, with the southern-most schools located in Arnprior and northern-most school in Deep River. The Board has approximately 9,500 students in 7 secondary schools and 23 elementary schools across the district. In addition, the Board has adult high schools and Programs for Alternative Learning (PAL) in Arnprior, Renfrew, Pembroke and Barry’s Bay. The successful candidate will have a breadth and depth of knowledge, skills and experiences as a teacher and school administrator and/or system leader. In addition to being a person of integrity and vision, excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills, thorough knowledge of Ontario educational legislation, and all aspects of the Ontario Leadership Framework are required.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Education. As part of the Director’s Executive Council, Superintendents of Education are assigned responsibilities for supporting and supervising elementary and/or secondary schools throughout our District. This assignment also has system-level responsibilities (which are currently under review). The successful candidate is recognized for their expertise in supporting school and board improvement planning and the board’s strategic plan. Additionally, the successful candidate must have an outstanding educational background including an excellent performance appraisal within the last 5 years. Candidates will demonstrate a depth and breadth of leadership experiences and have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Principal in a school and/or central department. Experience in both school and system level roles is considered an asset.
Application packages must include: covering letter; resume; most recent performance appraisal, one-page essay on the role of the Superintendent of Education; proof of Supervisory Officer qualifications, or currently registered in SOQP and will attain these qualifications as part of the conditions of their employment, by no later than August 31, 2018; proof of membership in the Ontario College of Teachers; and, three references with authorization for contact under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
