We are currently recruiting for a Human Resources Generalist. This is a full-time temporary position, on a calendar year basis and offers a wide range of assignments.


Under the direction of the Acting Coordinator of Human Resources Services, the Human Resources Generalist serves as the link between the organization and its employees. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for all day to day operations of his/her respective clients. He/she assesses client needs, interprets and applies HR strategy and policies, rules and regulations, establishes internal procedures and provides solutions to a wide spectrum of complex HR issues. The Human Resources Generalist promotes a collaborative, client oriented approach and contributes to the maintenance of high staff morale.

Other duties include:

  • Managing the online applicant system
  • Ensures compliance with the Board’s Collective Agreements/Policies by all employee groups
  • Advise, direct and support all departments within the Board on all areas of HR including processes, process changes and reporting requirements;
  • Administer attendance related functions; track, analyze and report on attendance data; track and monitor nonoccupational absences
  • Maintain accurate records and compile statistical reports for internal and external clients
  • Creation and submission of job requisitions, applicant screening, finalizing job posting requests, acquiring appropriate approval
  • Identify current and prospective staffing requirements, prepare and post notices and advertisements, and collect and screen applications
  • Contact potential applicants to arrange interviews
  • Notify applicants of results of selection process and prepare job offers
  • Storage and maintenance of all information and records relating to job postings, collected applicant information and staff requisition forms
  • Advise job applicants on employment requirements and on terms and conditions of employment
  • Provide support to school staff in day to day operations
  • Maintain HR databases and seniority lists
  • Special projects as directed by the Acting Coordinator of Human Resources Services
  • Provide exceptional customer service for all HR related matters
  • Complete other HR administrative duties as required
  • University degree or College diploma in a related field
  • Two to three years of work experience in a Human Resources function preferred
  • CHRP would be an asset
  • Work experience in recruiting preferred
  • Experience in a unionized environment would be an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  •  Data analysis skills and basic research skills required
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times
  • Able to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies, procedures and Collective Agreements
  • Ability to adapt to and learn new software
  • Strong working knowledge of all HR functions, as well as a basic understanding of the Board’s organizational structure
  • Knowledge of Federal and Provincial employment practices
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • Demonstrated communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization

Working Conditions:

  • Travel may be required
  • Overtime as required
