The Pembroke Regional Hospital has a requirement for one (1) Trades Generalist to work in the Maintenance Department. This position is offered on a Full-time basis.

The Trades Generalist supports the efficient day to day operation of the physical plant by maintaining and repairing equipment, maintaining and making repairs to the physical plant, and providing expertise in their area of specialty. These functions are performed within a team environment that includes licensed trades persons, maintenance assistants, project coordinator and supervisor.

Applicants must be available to work all shifts including weekends.


  • High school diploma and certificate of qualification in the trades as an Electrician or General Carpenter
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards
  • Ability to work with blueprints, drawings, schematic diagrams and layouts
  • Ability to shift priorities with minimal disruption
  • Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with supervisors, colleagues and other members of the health care team
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated diagnostic and problem solving ability and experience
  • Experience working in an environment with significant client service focus and interaction
  • Demonstrated understanding of the various trades and their role in maintaining the operation of the physical plant
  • Required to participate in safety training programs and adhere to health and safety procedures
  • Given the nature of the work the incumbent will have a significant focus on safety and the Internal Responsibility System
  • Provides on-call coverage on a rotating basis
  • Provides direction and support to Trades Assistants and contractors
  • Provides input / supports material, tool, supply and contractor selection as required
  • Valid class G driver’s license
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is preferred


  • Previous experience in a hospital or large scale building maintenance
  • Building automation experience
  • Locksmith experience
