The Service Technician is responsible for providing quality workmanship, consistent service, and technical knowledge to the customers. Performs all tasks related to the testing, diagnosing, repair, maintenance, and reconditioning of transmissions, engines (gasoline and diesel), and engine components.
• Troubleshoots and inspects equipment (e.g., engines, transmissions) for proper performance in compliance with company, federal, and industry standards. • Diagnoses faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required; validates nature of repairs required on the equipment with the foreman • Adjusts equipment and repairs or replaces defective parts, components, or systems using various handheld, pneumatic and mechanical tools; inspects/tests repaired equipment for proper performance, to ensure the work meets manufacturers’ specifications, and that the repaired unit is road ready; records accurate service time. • Cleans, lubricates, measures, tests, and performs other routine maintenance work on equipment. • Inputs journal messages as required to ensure repairs are completed in the shortest possible time and to the customer’s satisfaction. • Complies with all company quality protocols, factory updates, and bulletins to ensure compliance with current OEM service standards. • Works as part of a larger team within the organization to ensure the efficient operation of the service department and the satisfaction of customers
Skills and Qualifications: • A trade certification and/or currently be registered in a related Apprenticeship program • Industry experience in on-highway related products (e.g., Detroit Diesel engines, Allison transmissions). • Experience performing diagnostics and rebuilds • Fundamental written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work effectively with customers and others • Excellent demonstrated mechanical aptitude, analysis and problem solving skills
