Design Associate

We are recruiting for a Design Associate. This is a full-time, permanent position.

We are looking for a responsible team player with an eagerness to learn and thrive in a fast-paced environment. As a growing retail-based establishment, the Design Associate has many vital duties that vary from providing advice on color selection and understanding the basic color theory and design principles to work with customers to help achieve a functional and aesthetically pleasing interior space. The Design Associate holds a high level of responsibility in ensuring the customer feels taken care of and has a satisfying experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provides a positive customer experience with fair, friendly, and courteous service
• Responds to and handle customer inquiries, requests, and concerns in a timely manner, over the phone, through email, and in-person
• Maintains current knowledge of trends and materials, techniques, and other developments in interior design. (e.g., the color of the month, year; paints, primers, finishes)
• Works with customers to help achieve a functional and aesthetically pleasing interior space
• Provides advice on color selection, preparing paint orders, and color corrections
• Offers recommendations and answers inquiries on fashion plumbing and lighting fixtures
• Keeps up to date with in-store promotions, in-store deals, and product locations
• Ensures that retail basic tasks are executed efficiently (e.g., stocking shelves, display areas, changing labels, facing products, maintaining a clean workstation, etc.)
• Plays an active role in the customer service team by openly sharing opinions and ideas on how to improve department success and by participating in meetings and all training as required
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with company procedures, policies, rules, and regulations
• Abides by all health and safety programs and regulations. Reports any observed or potential hazards immediately
• Completes other tasks, as required

• Ability to work a flexible schedule including some weekends, and holidays
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced retail environment
• Excellent customer and communication skills with the ability to remain consistent in professionalism when faced with challenging situations
• Understanding of basic color theory and design principles; base knowledge is required
• Strong visual design skills including proportion and aesthetics
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team atmosphere
• Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base
• Demonstrated ability to attention to detail with basic mathematical skills
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
• Proficiency with computers
• Knowledge in fashion plumbing and electrical; base knowledge is required
