Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN)is a proud and progressive Algonquin community. Pikwakanagan is situated on the shores of Golden Lake and the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Located off Highway 60, our community is 90 minutes west of Ottawa and 90 minutes hours east of Algonquin Park.

 

We are currently recruiting for an Acting Daycare Manager. This is a one-year contract position with the possibility of permanency. This role is 35 hours per week.

 

The Acting Daycare Manager will provide overall management and leadership of the day-to-day operations of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation Day Care – Mindiwin Manido. This role is responsible for maintaining the development, recommendation, and administration of policies of Mindiwin Manido operations and meeting the minimum standards for childcare center licensing laws.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Plans, coordinates, maintains, and oversees operations of the Mindiwin Manido
  • Assists with the childcare development program to ensure the well-being and learning objectives of children are met
  • Prepares reports for the Ontario Ministry of Education and College for licensing to ensure the safety and well-being of all children at Mindiwin Mandio.
  • Provides statistical, financial, progress, and other reports required by funding agencies and the Executive Director
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates the strategic plans and annualized work plans for Mindiwin Mandio
  • Ensure traditional Algonquin language and culture are directed and implemented

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, business or a related field of study, with two years of experience in a management or supervisory role, or
  • Post-secondary diploma in education, social work, business, or related field with three years of experience in a management or supervisory role, or
  • Experience working in a childcare setting or educational environment

Conditions of Employment:

  • An acceptable criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Certificate of medical health by a physician and complete record of immunization
  • Current First Aid and CPR Level C certification
  • Cultural awareness training

  • the qualified indigenous person; then to,
  • the qualified non-indigenous candidate.

Interviews will be conducted in-person or virtually by Teams Meeting. AOPFN has the right to shortlist for interview and assessment purposes of the five most qualified persons and typically establishes an eligibility list.
