The Petawawa Predators Swim Club (PPSC) is a military club offering swimming excellence for children and youth seeking to thrive in a professional, competitive, club environment. PPSC offers four levels of training in fundamentals of competitive swimming, pre-competitive training, and competitive training for 12&U and 13&O athletes. We currently boast 90 registered athletes with a healthy wait list and financial stability.

 

PPSC is a base cub at Garrison Petawawa, operating under the leadership of a parent volunteer executive team. The club is supported by a multi-year contract between PSP Petawawa and With Chéla INC the human resource service provider responsible for supplying the coaching personnel for the club.

 

We are recruiting for a Competitive Swimming Coach Apprentice. This is a 15-month apprenticeship contract position.

 

This role also involves some administrative work to maintain communications with parents, athletes, and coworkers, for competition registrations, and data set upkeep. This work is completed remotely and is flexible in nature with deadlines to support accountability.

Qualifications
For success in the role, each of the following factors must be in place. Candidates without all of the following characteristics will not be considered.

 

  • Experience in a sports environment as an athlete and/or coach
  • Experience with individual sport is considered an asset
  • Fluent in English. Bilingualism in French and English is a strong asset
  • Proximity to Petawawa
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid G driver’s license
  • Clean vulnerable sector check
  • Personal device and internet access to complete online training modules (cell phones are not supported)
  • Able to stand on a concrete pool deck for the entire duration of shifts, up to 4 hours in length
  • Comfortable in warm and humid indoor chlorinated pool environments for long periods of time
  • Available for evening shifts from September to June, 1615h to 2015h and Saturday mornings, 0645h to 1015h
  • Available to travel to competitions outside the region, driving to cities such as Ottawa, Toronto, or Belleville for three-day weekends, or flying to Halifax, Vancouver, Calgary, etc.for up to one week for advanced competitions
  • Passion for working with children and youth aged 8 – 19 from diverse backgrounds with a value for inclusion and equity
  • Acceptance of and compliance with the Swimming Canada Code of Conduct for Coaches
  • Willingness to learn and develop in the Coaché philosophy using the long-term athlete development model
  • Able and willing to complete all required training during the apprenticeship term, or proof of certification to include:
    • Safe Sport module
    • Making Ethical Decisions mModule
    • Rowan’s Law concussion education module
    • Swimming 101 PreCourse workbook, online course, portfolio and assessment
    • High Five Principles of healthy child development
    • First Aid, CPR-C

This role is to become employed at With Chéla INC as a competitive swimming coach apprentice in service to the contract to deploy personnel and coaching excellence to the Petawawa Predators Swim Club. As such, the candidates selected will not be employed by PSP, nor acting as PSP representatives. Head Coach Chéla Breckon is the owner of With Chéla INC and the direct manager of the individual apprentice.

 

One of the keys to success for the club over the last ten seasons was having a lead coach for both the development program and the competitive program. PPSC has seen great success under the leadership of Head Coach Chéla Breckon and her team of student coach athletes. Seeing nationally ranked athletes, full programs with wait lists, and an ever-growing demand for more training opportunities, PPSC is an example of one of the most high-performing and successful competitive clubs in the region.
