Full Job Description
The Ottawa Valley Historical Society is seeking to hire a motivated individual to work as an Education Program Leader/Tour Guide at the Upper Ottawa Valley Heritage Centre, formerly known as the Champlain Trail Museum and Pioneer Village. This position will begin on May 22, 2023, and end on August 25, 2023. Anchored by its collection of artifacts, the Upper Ottawa Valley Heritage Centre connects the history of Pembroke and the area with contemporary life by telling compelling stories through exhibitions and programming for all ages.
Duties include:
– Provide informed tours of the museum and pioneer village to the public.
– Plan and lead the museum’s summer Kids Days program.
– Assist with planning and presenting any other programs/events.
– Assist with managing the museum’s social media pages (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
– Provide customer service to visitors.
– Clean and maintain the museum’s gardens, grounds, and exhibits.
– Act as a good ambassador for the museum and historical society.
– Assist with planning virtual presentations and lending out Museum in a Box education kits if required.
– Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
This job is suited to a university or college student from a liberal arts field (i.e., history, education, museum studies, social sciences, geography, etc.).
– Ability to multitask.
– Advanced experience using Microsoft Office and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
– Good public speaking and organizational skills.
– An interest in history and heritage in the community.
– The student must have a valid driver’s license with access to a car.
– Must be a full-time student this past spring and returning to full-time studies in the fall.
– Bilingualism is an asset.

Please note this position is contingent on the Heritage Centre receiving successful grant funding and the applicant being approved by Young Canada Works.
The job will take place in the beautiful city of Pembroke, which is located in the heart of the Upper Ottawa Valley. It is an hour and a half drive from our nation’s capital Ottawa. Check out the museum’s website www.champlaintrailmuseum.com and the City of Pembroke’s website www.pembroke.ca.
The wage is $15.50 an hour.
