We are currently recruiting for a General Maintenance Class 1 Operator for the roads and fleet department. This is a permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week including weekends, holidays and occasional overtime.


Under the supervision of the supervisor of roads and fleet, the General Maintenance Class 1 Operator will operate equipment used in the maintenance and repair of the city’s road network system.


Additional responsibilities include:


  • Operate trucks, dump trucks, sand spreaders, lawn mowers and other tools and small equipment
  • Perform general road maintenance including pothole filling, ditching works, repairing washouts, shouldering, resurfacing and sidewalk repairs
  • Loading, hauling and unloading various materials and supplies
  • Participating in winter snow operations including snow removal, sanding, salting and plowing of sidewalks
  • A minimum of grade 12
  • Possess and maintain a DZ Ontario driver’s licence
  • At least six months experience in the operation of trucks, including dump trucks
  • At least six months of experience in the field of general maintenance
  • Experience or trainability in mechanics
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Be capable of carrying out assigned duties with a minimum of supervision and with a high sense of responsibility
  • Able to lift 50lbs of supplies or equipment


This position requires a candidate who is responsible, detail-oriented and has the ability to work with minimal supervision.
