Description:
Situated on the beautiful Ottawa River, Pembroke is a vibrant city of 16,200 that is renowned as “the heart of the Ottawa Valley.” Pembroke is the key commercial sector of the area with a mix of small and large businesses, a vibrant downtown core and a quality of life that combines culture, sport and nature.

 

We are currently recruiting for Instructor Guards. These are part-time positions. Due to the nature of the aquatic operations, no designated hours of work shall apply. You must be available for a verity of shifts including evenings and weekends.

 

Under direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, you will efficiently provide quality swimming instruction and lifeguarding services at the Kinsmen Pool and/or Riverside Park Beach. You will conduct a program of swimming that is both safe and satisfying for the participants involved according to the standards set by the City of Pembroke. Additionally, you will act as a tourism ambassador, welcoming visitors and the general public in a friendly and courteous manner and providing tourist information when requested.

 

Duties:

  • Lifeguard
  • Instruct, complete instructor worksheets and prepare lesson plans and parent report forms
  • Act as a cashier when required, accepting appropriate fees and issuing receipts
  • Answer the telephone promptly and politely provide information
  • Participate in scheduled in-service training sessions
  • Perform maintenance duties as required
  • Check the pool deck to ensure the equipment is in place and ready for use before any patrons enter the pool area
  • Tidy the deck and guard room at the end of each swim period
  • Perform and record readings of chlorine and PH every two hours
  • Administer First Aid as necessary, complete accident and incident report forms
  • Adhere to all regulations
  • Performs any other duties as requested
Qualifications
  • Current National Lifeguard Pool Option certification
  • Current Standard First Aid – Level C CPR
  • Current Red Cross Swim Instructor status
  • Current Lifesaving Swim Instructor is an asset
Additional Information
4% vacation pay is in addition to the hourly rate.
