Valley Manor is a private long-term care home nestled in the natural environment of Barry’s Bay. We are a fully accredited facility for 90 residents, and we are the area’s largest employer with 140 people on our staff. Valley Manor is also building a new residence – the largest redevelopment project in Barry’s Bay history! This new development will offer an even better home for our residents with larger individual and common area rooms. It is an exciting time to be a part of our organization. Due to an upcoming retirement, we are recruiting for a Maintenance Manager. This is a full-time position effective September 2023. The Maintenance Manager is a critical role within our long-term care home as it impacts the lives of residents through the strong leadership and motivation of Valley Manor team members. Description of Role: - Manage the maintenance services of the home and all team members in the maintenance department.
- Plans, coordinates, directs, and monitors the effectiveness of all operational activities within the maintenance department.
- Maintains the building (includes equipment, furnishings, and fixtures).
- Maintains the external grounds for all seasons and manages the waste program for the home.
- Leads the fire safety program for the home.
- Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program for maintenance service.
- Management and oversight of the routine and preventative maintenance program for the home.

- Post-secondary diploma or relevant experience in a trade related to maintenance operations of a large facility.
- Related educational background and experience in maintenance.
- Experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity is an asset.
- Successful completion of the fire safety planning training for owners and operators in accordance with Ontario Regulation 150/13 or currently registered.
- Background in a building trade is an asset with the ability to read and interpret building prints and drawings.
- Preference is given to applicants with knowledge of the requirements of the Long-Term Care Homes Act, Standards and Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other pertinent federal, provincial, and municipal statutes which influence the operation of the home and more specifically those which affect the fire and general safety and maintenance aspects of the operation.
- Computer skills including Excel and Word are an asset.
- Effective verbal and written English communication skills are required.
- All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed vulnerable sector check (applicable to Ontario applicants.)
- WHMIS training would be considered an asset
- Occupational health and safety certification is preferred.
