EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

 MECHANIC

The Town of Petawawa is currently seeking a knowledgeable and diligent Mechanic for our Public Works Department. The Mechanic maintains and repairs the Town’s fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment and machinery under the direction of the Manager of Public Works.

Description of Position:

  • Conducts safety checks on all Town vehicles, including fire trucks and trailers
  • Services and repairs Town vehicles or arranges for repairs from an outside source
  • Ensures routine vehicle and equipment maintenance is performed to keep in safe working condition
  • Diagnoses and corrects electrical problems, and calibrates electronic sand and salt distribution systems on all winter maintenance vehicles
  • Purchases tools, parts and supplies and maintains inventory of same
  • Participates in, and assists in the preparation of new equipment tenders and inspects new vehicles and equipment to ensure adherence to specifications
  • Provides occasional in-house training on maintenance and minor repairs

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary diploma in vehicle mechanics or the equivalent apprenticeship with a minimum grade 12 diploma
  • Licensed Automotive Service Technician (310S) and Licensed Truck and Coach Technician (310T)
  • Knowledge of new technology on engines, equipment, emission systems
  • Knowledge of computers and relevant fleet management software, an asset
  • Possession of a valid class DZ driver’s license, an asset

 

Rate of Pay:

$37.37 to $43.96 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience and is based on a 40 hour work week. The Town offers a pension and comprehensive benefits package.
