Full job description
Reporting to the Manager of Economic Development, and under the direction of the Small Business Advisor, the Program Officer will assist with day-to-day operations of the Enterprise Renfrew County by carrying out administrative duties, including maintaining the resource centre, responding to general business inquiries, website updates and social media marketing; coordinating the Summer Company program, as well as networking events, workshops and seminars that promote self-employment/entrepreneurship.
Responsibilities
- Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Provincial and Municipal Acts. Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the Operational policies of the County of Renfrew.
- Under the direction of the Manager of Economic Development Services and in collaboration with the Small Business Advisor, assist in the implementation of the Enterprise Renfrew County’s annual business and work plans and associated reports.
- Provide clients with basic business start-up information and inform new and existing businesses of the services offered through community outreach.
- Support and coordinatethe marketing and administration of special projects like Summer Company, Starter Company Plus and Bridges to Better Business.
- Assist clients in accessing business information on myriad websites, in hardcopy documents, via links to contact people and in personal meetings.
- Assist the Small Business Advisor with the planning and coordination of training/seminars/ workshops and presentations on business plan development, marketing, tax, financing, starting a small business, legal issues, sales strategies, and bookkeeping, etc.
- Responsible for maintaining and querying CRM databases that track client information and business inquiries and for maintenance and update of ERC website and social media.
- Maintain a library/electronic resource centre of business planning and support information and research the availability of new resource materials.
- Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety. Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to community college (1, 2, 3-year programs) education in entrepreneurship programs and small business operations or related program supporting youth engagement. Minimum one years’ experience in an entrepreneurial field,ideally with experience in starting and operating a small business and/or with supporting youth programs.
- Developed networking and leadership skills with the ability to form partnerships in the community.
- Strong initiative and follow-through skills with the knowledge and understanding of meeting and event planning.
- Computer literacy is required, particularly; word processing, spreadsheet and Internet applications in a Windows environment, and social media platforms.
- Strong interpersonal, writing, organization and communication skills.
- Valid drivers’ license and immediate accessible transportation.
