Description:
Carefor is Eastern Ontario’s largest home care and community support services a not-for-profit with over 1,400 employees operating in Eastern Counties, Ottawa and Pembroke-Renfrew County. Formerly the Victorian Order of Nurses, Carefor has been providing services for over 123 years.

We are recruiting for a Registered Practical Nurse. This is a full-time, term position working 75 hours bi-weekly from June 24, 2024 to September 18, 2025.

Under the supervision of the Care Team Supervisor, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for the provision and management of cost-effective, quality nursing care to residents of the Pembroke Civic Complex. The RPN will assume a leadership role by teaching, delegating, and providing guidance to different levels of workers within the care team. Care is provided within the framework of quality and risk management, Carefor policies and procedures, and the standards and scope of practice set by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provides complete, relevant assessment of the resident and describes and/or documents findings
  • Prepares and updates the resident profile and care plan
  • Effectively and safely administers medication
  • Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to ensure residents receive quality care
  • Identifies problems and selects and implements individualized strategies or interventions to focus care on resolving or managing the problem
  • Describes the rationale for referrals and changes in the service plan
  • Identifies and utilizes tools and resources for work and manages these resources through regular monitoring of equipment etc. and reporting unusable equipment
  • Delegates care appropriately
  • Meets with the resident and family to orient them to the residence
  • Seeks input from residents to ensure that service meets expectations
  • Ensures all workplace incidents are reported in a timely manner
Qualifications
  • RPN diploma from an approved college
  • Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Experience in a long-term care or retirement facility is an asset
  • A certificate in gerontology would be an asset
  • Experience working in a retirement, nursing home or similar environment
  • Experience working with seniors or adults with dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, and mental health illnesses

Additional Information
Schedule:

  • Week 1 – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday days
  • Week 2 – Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday days
