Description:
The mission of Bernadette McCann House (BMH), an accredited organization serving Renfrew County, is to work for change that will end abuse by providing safety, support, and education to all those who experience abuse. Our services include an emergency residential program for women and children, community outreach, support services for children, groups, and workshops.

Specifically, our residential program offers a short-term emergency 16-bed shelter for women and children fleeing an abusive relationship.

We are currently recruiting for a Residential Caseworker. This is a full-time, contract position at 37.5 hours per week in the shelter. The contract runs from April 2023 to April 2024.

Reporting to the Residential Supervisor, this position provides direct service to women who experience abuse, and their children, in a residential setting, primarily covering day shifts. This involves crisis intervention and client advocacy.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of a post-secondary program in social sciences or a related field
  • A thorough understanding of the issue of violence against women and the impact on child witnesses
  • Experience in crisis intervention
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively both as a team member and independently
  • Ability to speak and write in both English and French (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a car (preferred)
  • Current First Aid-CPR certification
  • Current vulnerable sector check

Bernadette McCann House has a COVID vaccination policy that is aligned with ministry and public health recommendations. Staff are required to be vaccinated or in the process of being vaccinated as we work with the vulnerable sector of our community in a congregate living setting.
