Summer Day Camp Counselor

Summer Day Camp Counselor (6 Positions)
Status: Summer Employment Position
Wage: $15.50 per hour
Work Term: June 19 – August 27, 2023 (minimum 40 hours/ week)
Description:
The Community Services Department is looking for responsible, enthusiastic and out-going
Summer Day Camp Counselors for our diverse summer camps (ages 6 to 11 years old). The Summer Day Camp Counselors are to act as a leader and provide participants with a fun, safe, and educational camp experience. The incumbents will be responsible for the program implementation of each of the camps and support and maintain a positive relationship with staff, parents, and campers. The incumbents are expected to interact with campers in all program components of all camps and create a fun and safe environment at all times.
Responsibilities:
Active involvement in the operation and delivery of the summer camp programs
Implementation and involvement in all aspects of summer camp programs
Supervise participants with guidance from Summer Camp Director, Recreation Program Coordinator, and Recreation Program Assistant
Assist with responding to parent questions and concerns to ensure customer satisfaction
Ensure programs are run safely and on schedule
Learn and teach the assigned camp curriculum and weekly camp programs
Other duties as assigned
Required skills and knowledge:
High energy, excellent people skills, and a friendly, responsible, service-oriented attitude
A keen interest and ability to work with children aged 6-11 provide outdoor-related programs, and support children’s interests and needs as well as other related interests
Experience teaching or working with children in a camp or school setting would be considered an asset
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Other Qualifications:
Experience working with children ages 6 to 11 years in a camp or educational setting
Current certifications in First Aid & CPR-C
Vulnerable Screening Check (required prior to commencement of employment)
Formal studies in Education, Recreation, and Physical Education are an asset
High Five Certifications an asset
Prepared for the physically demanding job (very active, high energy)
