Situated on the beautiful Ottawa River, Pembroke is a vibrant city of 16,200 that is renowned as “the heart of the Ottawa Valley.” Pembroke is the key commercial sector of the area with a mix of small and large businesses, a vibrant downtown core, and a quality of life that combines culture, sport, and nature.


We are currently recruiting for Volunteer Firefighters.


Under the supervision of the Fire Chief, Volunteer Firefighters provide assistance to city firefighting staff on a call-out basis. Volunteer firefighters are on stand-by every second week.

  • Minimum of Grade 12
  • Strong knowledge of the city’s layout and infrastructure
  • Basic mechanical ability and aptitude
  • Valid Ontario class G driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle


  • First Aid and CPR
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act
  • NFPA 1001 Level I & II certified


Successful candidates will be required to be available for stand-by and participate in training on a regular basis. Candidates must live or agree to live within a 10 km. radius of the City of Pembroke Fire Department.

Additional Information
Rate of Pay:

  • $20.84 per hour for training hours and call-outs
  • $84.25 per week for stand-by
