Overview
The Developmental Service Worker plays a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive the care and assistance needed to thrive in their daily lives. This position requires a compassionate and dedicated individual who can effectively communicate and build relationships with clients. The Developmental Service Worker will assist with daily living activities, promote independence, and provide a safe environment for individuals to grow and develop.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in various settings.
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
- Foster a positive and encouraging environment that promotes independence and self-esteem.
- Communicate effectively with others to understand their needs and preferences.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, and other professionals to develop individualized plans.
- Implement therapeutic activities that enhance social skills, communication abilities, and overall well-being.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client progress and any incidents that may occur.
- Adhere to safety protocols and ensure a clean and safe environment for all clients.
Experience & Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess the following skills and experience:
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with individuals of varying abilities.
- Experience in caregiving or working with persons with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medication administration practices.
- A compassionate attitude towards helping others achieve their fullest potential
- A two years of post-secondary education in human services is preferred for all positions, however candidates who have a combined post-secondary education of at least 2 years in a similar field, or 1 year of schooling plus experience working in the developmental services field, may also be considered.
- A valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and proof of vehicle insurance
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPR (or willing to obtain)
- Current vulnerable sector screening (or willing to obtain)
