Job Description
: The Petawawa Public Library is seeking an outgoing, friendly, creative, post-secondary
student with an interest in working with children, and developing leadership skills, to plan and deliver
creative and engaging children’s programs and activities during the summer months.
The role supports the library’s delivery of the annual TD Summer Reading Club, to encourage kids to
continue developing literacy skills during the summer: this year’s theme is Around the World, and the
successful candidate will develop programs and booklists aligned with the theme. The successful
candidate will run the Reading Club registration table and encourage children to sign up and participate.
The successful candidate will also develop content for marketing materials (website, social media and
posters), and support the overall promotion of the reading club and programming. This position will also
support general library operations, and assist in outreach activities to encourage library use.
Duties:
• Plan and lead programs and activities for children ages 5-12 (5-7 and 8-12) as part of the Library’s
annual TD Summer Reading Club delivery to the community. Programs to include literacy skills,
crafts, STEM programming, games and / or other creative activities, and to promote a love of
reading.
• Promote the Library’s TD Summer Reading Club during visits to schools or at community events
alongside library staff.
• Organize, request / gather needed supplies for planned programs.
• Create posters, and content for social media, website and promotional newsletters for the reading
club and planned programs.
• Staff the registration desk for the Summer Reading Club and input data to track program
participation.
• Assist children and their parents/guardians locate books and other materials in the library.
• Create engaging informational, educational and promotional library displays related to the TD
Summer Reading Club and weekly themes.
• Create booklists of reading materials geared for children

Job Requirements
Must be outgoing, enthusiastic, flexible, reliable, and self-motivated
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
• Must have experience working with children.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours including Saturdays.
• Post-secondary student in library or education-related field of study
• The ability to provide service in French is a definite asset.
• Must provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
• Current First Aid and CPR preferred
